The Yorkshire Dales has an above average age population, I think this is due to the healthy environment and lifestyle, which persuades people to retire here. Unlike town dwellers, many of the older people have not used computers before, have no use for the Internet and all it’s distractions. However, many more are coming to realise that not being computer numerate can be a disadvantage and are trying to learn the skills necessary to use a computer correctly. Many of the local authorities run courses for beginners, which are fine in one way, but as you get older it becomes harder to take in the new technology, which is where I come in. Last year I started a one to one teaching service for “Silver Surfers” as we are becoming known, aimed at the over sixties. Usually I visit them at home and offer 2-hour sessions, which is as much as anyone can take in at any one time. If they would prefer, they could be taught in my house using my equipment, which is a little more expensive but still much less than professional teacher’s charge. The syllabus is tailored to suit the pupil and progresses at their pace. Outside tuition is restricted to weekdays, and within a 15-mile radius of my village. Tuition at my home is again restricted to weekdays, as weekends and free time are reserved for photography. I also teach Digital Photography from, basics up to the use of Photo Shop Elements 5.
Included this year will be the basics of A-V Presentation using Pictures To Exe software, this will be a beginners course from show preparation, assembly, adding musical background, and basic animation, I am still coming to grips myself with the complexities of PTE, but what I can teach will benefit the beginner.
Prices for the teaching service are again on the pricing page.
